FC Pres Hannah Shelton Collabs With Other Clubs at School

By Gigi Hooghkirk · On February 21, 2018

She brought in Student Government, Beauty Club, Theater, Broadcast, and Graphic Design to help her produce the winter fashion show at Verrado HS!

We caught up with FC President Hannah Shelton at Verrado High School in Buckeye, Arizona, to find out more about the success of her winter fashion show on January 12th.

What was your favorite part? My favorite part of putting the fashion show together was getting to work with such passionate and hard working people who all came together for our shared love of fashion. Everyone is unique and has their own style, yet we could all create something wonderful together. Once I saw the outcome of our show, I was truly amazed by the creativity and talent all of us teenagers had. And through that, everyone supported one another and formed great relationships.

Any advice for a Fashion Club that wants to put on a fashion show like this? Every Fashion Club should utilize social media as it is the best way to spread the word and show what your club is about. Have your club be open to all styles of fashion and forms of art so anyone can join, the bigger the better! Host large events that everyone in the school can see. This way, more and more people will join as time goes on and students will be able to showcase their talents! Network with other clubs at your school. Our club had help from student government, beauty club, theater, broadcast, and graphic design.

Where did you get the clothes? Our show consisted of 11 designers who were each responsible for their own clothing. Most designers found their clothing items at local Goodwills or other thrift stores, while others used clothes from their own closets. Some even made their own outfits from scratch.

Describe the looks: Designers were given the freedom to choose a theme of their own as long as it coordinated with the Winter Season. The 11 themes consisted of looks inspired by ‘80s cartoons, Hollywood runway, ‘70s fashion modernized, feminism, ‘90s grunge, southern European street style, Guess x A$AP Rocky, monochromatic colors, club kid era, luxurious vacation, and Chanel fashion of the 1960s.

How many models and how did you recruit them? 96 models participated in our show! Our club hosted a model open call where students could walk on stage and showcase their personality. Designers were able to choose people that best fit their vision.

How did you promote the event? We promoted our show with lots of advertisements on all social media platforms, announcements at lunch, and daily reminders on the morning announcements.

Anything else you’d like to share? Never hesitate to go above and beyond! You never know who you might inspire.
